Inspired By

Belinda on Twitter, a “Ayurvedic Practitioner – Holistic Nutrition, Lifestyle & Yoga Consultant”. Read below, she was the “audience member” speaking up.

Creator Commentary

Oh dear me, this was a good one.

Today I randomly find a Twitter (I wasn’t following Belinda) a post saying…

“Ayurveda is the mother of ALL holistic medicine… and the MOST subtle of all in its understanding of the body, mind & soul.” (link).

Clearly, while Ayurveda is old it isn’t the “mother of all“ – especially considering other systems developed on their own without any contact to Ayurveda. Further, to call it “the most subtle of all” is (I feel) a pompous statement given the practice of other systems for thousands of years still in use today and working quite well.

So, I responded saying…

“mother of all? wow, that’s pretty intense, so it’s even the mother of all with cultures it never interacted with?” (link).

This did not go over well.

In a response, I was told

“That shows how little you know” (link)

...and, that, for merely asking for sources to back up these “facts” I had…

CLEARLY demonstrated that [I had one of] the least flexible minds” (link).

I realize I am not an expert in many things, but I also know that when someone touts pompus facts and opinions about an energy system, they are most likely flat wrong. This is the same person who, after all, said a few days ago (totally unrelated)...

“there are NO fat-burning diets except AYURVEDIC ones” (link).

Oh, and did I mention, this woman runs a buisness where she claims to be a professional in these fields… and takes people’s hard-earned-cash for her “knowledge

So, perhaps you, dear readers, can help me out?

If you would like to contact Belinda I have left her contact information below. Feel free to give her a call, write her an email, or stop in at the shop. Share with her that, yes, history and facts are important… and if you’re running a business touting your trade that perhaps… oh, I don’t know… you should have a grasp on history & fact, as well as the energetic system you proclaim to be an expert in.

I would love it if you shared any communications you have with her below as well (as comments) or, if you wish, to email them to me directly via the contact form.

I told Belinda I would make her famous, only you can help me make it possible!

Let’s Make Belinda Famous!

Support Against Belinda

I will try to archive letters, twitters, or other content of support against Belinda and her “facts” and other aggressive behavior. If you have such content, feel free to send it to me.

“@Durgamaa As a licensed medical professional who is trained in Alt.Med. @shivian is 100% correct.” (link)

“I’m no expert and don’t pretend to be, but I can spot a fraud fairly well.” (link)

“The really amusing thing is that she has never once posted a direct link to some sort of support for her remarkable claims.” (link)

“careful luv, @Durgamaa is all about trying to have people banned for disagreeing with her. It’s kind of depressing really” (link)

“for the record twitterverse: you probably shouldn’t be taking medical advice via twitter from anyone who you don’t know and trust” (link)

“Yeah, I didn’t appreciate that much” [an agreement in response to a comment on Belinda’s cruel and pompous attitude] (link)

More Belinda Twitter Updates and Additions

Since all of this, Belinda has continued to make lovely and insulting / factually incorrect (sometimes potentially fatal) comments via her Twitter account. I shall share then below and update this as I find them. Enjoy!

“Diabetes, Migraines, Excess Fat, Heart Disease, Metabolic Disorder all have excess PITTA as their cause… easily eliminated with AYURVEDA.” (link) [Shivian’s note: this is my latest favorite, it’d be very sad to see someone seriously hurt or die because they tried to eliminate their diabetes with Belinda’s Ayurveda… though it’d likely put an end to her practice and / or land her in jail, away from being able to hurt / lie to people.]

“Do you know that aspartame makes formaldehyde in your body?” (link) [Shivian’s note: flat out false, there’s even a Snopes article to prove it.]

[responding to someone about remembering past lives] – “What a USELESS and DAMAGING exercise” (link)

[this was twittered / spammed four times in the same hour] – “AYURVEDA holds the key to the ENERGETIC EFFICIENCY of the species with the GREATEST impact on the Earth” (link)

“@shivian If you had ANY spirituality, you would have learned self-control by now. Don’t comment on things you know nothing about.” (link)

“@shivian doesn’t have many followers, which is probably why he has a problem with the word NO.” (link)

[in reference to me, posted twice (same content)] – “If anyone can tell me how this guy got through Twitter security, it would be much appreciated – he is blocked but still managing” (link)

Whoot, "Princess Bride"

Whoot, "Princess Bride" reference. I thought I was the only person who watches that movie lol. Anyway, in regards to what we're actually talking aboutI think that making her famous is a very awesome plan :). Maybe when she's 'famous' somebody she'll actually listen to will tell her she needs to get her facts straight (what? it could happen)

Blessed be,

Willow

it's mandatory

I thought "Princess Bride" was mandatory for all witches, along with "The Wicker Man" [the original] and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." "Young Frankenstein," while required for my coven, doesn't seem to be as universal.

EVE

while Ayurvedic medicine is old and effective, it is most deffinatly not the "mother" of all.
It is true that it spawned many of the ideas of various practices around the world. But I would never say it is the "Eve" of medicine.

funny thing is I know a guy

funny thing is I know a guy remarkably identicle to the cerimonial magician (who's name is too long to type lol).
come to think of it I'm sure I've seen this strip enacted in real life but about a diffrent subject

Wow, I thought her name was...

I just cracked up when I read this. I know someone exactly the same way.

This reminds me...

I know a girl who claimed that the Koran was the oldest monotheistic religious text and that Islam was the first of the monotheistic religions... And she refused to budge. They're out there, and some of them believe whatever suits them as opposed to whatever has any kind of historical evidence

out of curiosity...

did you know that Ayurvedaonline.com is one of your google ads?

Ayurveda?

For a second I thought it was a setup for an Aveda joke.

Are we a cult now?

“@shivian doesn’t have many followers, which is probably why he has a problem with the word NO.”

Shivian, I had no idea you were now becoming a religion of your own and looking for followers. So is the Belinda person wanting to spread information about Ayurveda or is she demanding people follow her and the belief set she set up?

I made an account just to announce this:

Ia Shivan! OMGs fhtagn!

and to say recent strips have not included enough Cthulhu.

I've seen this before: in chat rooms.

*sighs* I can also spot someone who's being a pompous ass too. When I was addicted to chat rooms, I found a nice little spot that was all about Wicca & Witchcraft. All kinds would come in and chat, from the serious querents to the fluff-bunnies.

The Fluff-bunnies would have the most "superior" attitudes and would flaunt it about the room... until one or more of us serious Wiccans/Witches would come in. Then the arguments started.... with the fluff zooming out the door (if it didn't get ousted out the room first), tail 'tween the legs.... ;>

Hmph. Never mess with an intelligent pagan; you may get more than you bargained for.
*blows kiss at Shivian*

I hate to be unpopular but Aspartame forms Formaldehyde in your body. Snopes only asserts that it has not been proven guilty of causing any epidemics.

AriannaBadWolf's picture

forgive me...

but what is aspartame, I've heard it once or twice... is it that sugar stuff for diabetics?
And in any case, most of the people I see using it are of a more golden age anyway, and if it does cause formaldehyde to form... well, wouldn't that be less work for a mortician?

and don't be offended people, I'm trying to get a giggle or two...

Hmmm, food for thought...

The name "Belinda" means "Beautiful Snake". Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Deepest apologies for the vacation

Welcome back everyone! I see many faces I remember and tons more new to me! Welcome back veterans and glad to have you newbies!

My deepest apologies for the strip’s long vacation. To not get into much detail, thankfully my feet are back underneath me again and I’m hopefully in a place where I can create the strip on a regular basis again. Currently there is a (huge) void in the strip (from August 4th to November 3rd) – I will try to refill this with content, but I do not want to promise what I am unsure I can deliver. If I do, you’ll be the first to know!
