Get Satisfaction!
Oh My Gods! just got it’s own Get Satisfaction site! Huzzah! Now simply go to getsatisfaction.com/ohmygods to leave comments, feedback, suggestions, and whatever else you’d like! There is also a tab on the left called “Feedback” you can use, as well as a link in the menu on the right. So go for it! I’ll be checking it, so feel free to use it to help Oh My Gods! grow!
Deepest apologies for the vacation
Welcome back everyone! I see many faces I remember and tons more new to me! Welcome back veterans and glad to have you newbies!
My deepest apologies for the strip’s long vacation. To not get into much detail, thankfully my feet are back underneath me again and I’m hopefully in a place where I can create the strip on a regular basis again. Currently there is a (huge) void in the strip (from August 4th to November 3rd) – I will try to refill this with content, but I do not want to promise what I am unsure I can deliver. If I do, you’ll be the first to know!
In the Works - Oh My Gods! Hardcover
While it's not ready to be finalized yet, I wanted to let all you lovely fans know about a special project I am working on. I am going to create an Oh My Gods! Special Edition Hard Cover book of the first Five Years of the strip. It will be pretty! It will be fantastic! It will (sadly) also be very expensive! However, I know there will be at least one customer (me) and perhaps maybe more!
Just wanted to give you all a tease!

A-burn!!
Awesomeness.
>_<
I'm not even Wiccan and still I think this is getting a bit too nasty to be funny in any level. Oh My Gods used to be more than just bitterness.

Huh...
I'm sorry, but have we forgotten the various religion strips? Go to the store and click on religions. I mean, come on, "Wicca; Pretending to be an ancient religion since 1957."? Pure genius, and this strip is in the same attitude. And I really love the Shammanism one (I need to get that as a bumper sticker).

EEP!
Wonderful. Sounds like the stupid comments I always get.
Huh?
Does me being Earth Reverent stop me from being Wiccan? O.o?
.:{}:..:*~|~*:..:{}:.
Blessed Be...to all.
Ouchies...
The sad part is, even wanting to defend Wicca, I can't think of anything that would refute that... *sigh* Maybe in a few more years, it won't be smothered in fluff.
>>If you can't stand the heat, don't tickle the dragon's tail...<<
Well...
Then defend the actual religion, and not the fluffbunny pretenders to the name.

Reverence ?
Most Wiccans value knowledge and reverence... But some apparently know and revere only themselves.

Yeah Shiv... whats the deal... isnt that 2 within a week's time here?
ummmm....
I think he said wiccan in the first one, and he said pagan in this one. Wiccan is technically neopagan, as is pagan, but wicca is a separate, though similar, branch of neopaganism. Just clarifying.
_,.:*:.,_Tisiphone_,.:*:.,_
Paganism?
I wasn't aware we all had the same religion now!
Not exactly...
We don't, but paganism is an umbrella religion, kinda like christianity. There's 50 gazillion different types; wicca, ceremonial, druids, ect., but they're all under the same "umbrella" of faith.
I repeat
Technically, we are NOT all pagan. Yeah, pagan has branches, but it is misused where the word "neopagan" should be a lot. Like this conversation. If you look it up, pagan and wicca both fall under neopaganism, but wicca is not supposed to be under paganism.
_,.:*:.,_Tisiphone_,.:*:.,_
Well...
That depends on your definition of the word "pagan" as used to describe a religious path.
I suppose
But the were set as separate words to differentiate, as many wiccans do not want to be seen as a branch of paganism, as well as to be clear when speaking abut topics such as this.
_,.:*:.,_Tisiphone_,.:*:.,_
...
Have any wiccans come up to you and said that they don't want any affiliation with paganism? I'm wiccan and I consider myself pagan.
Oh my.
You appear to have your classifications backwards - perhaps you need to look it up, as you advised us to do. "Neopaganism" is the subset of pagan religions that are considered newer, modern, et cetera. "Pagan" is the superset. All neopagan religions are pagan, and Wicca is a neopagan religion, hence pagan.
Also, "pagan" is not a religion. It doesn't have "branches". There are a multitude of religions that can be classified as "Pagan", some of which are mutually exclusive. Under some definitions of Pagan, including anthropological definitions, Hindu is considered a pagan religion. I'd love for someone to tell Hindus that they worship the Earth and practice "magick" in tune with nature. Aum preserve you.
Pagan is a classification for religions in which not being Abrahamic is a necessary but not absolutely sufficient condition. It is not an umbrella faith, it is an umbrella term whose definition is based more in what a religion is *not* than in what it *is*. Not all pagan religions worship nature, not all pagan religions get along together, *not all Pagan religions are even polytheistic*, and not all ethnographers can even agree on what the term Pagan *means*.
Pagan means "country
Pagan means "country dweller" in latin or something along those lines. It's what the sophisticated city people of Rome called those that lived out in the country and still worship the old "superstitions"
I'm aware.
The point is that not all of the paganii worshiped the same deities, or held the same festivals, or had the same practices. Calling "Pagan" an umbrella "religion" is absolutely incorrect, because the term "Pagan" is a classification of religions, much like "Monotheistic" or "Abrahamic" or "Animist" or "Panentheist", even "Non-Theocentric"!
The definition of Pagan in the original Latin is a bit irrelevant to the fact that there is no unified Pagan faith with "branches" - "Paganism" is a set of disparate and potentially mutually-exclusive religions that deserve to be respected as separate entities, lest we have yet another person tell a Santeria practitioner that all they really have to do to help a spirit pass to the afterlife is to "smudge with sage!"

teehee
This is something my friend would say!
:[
Ouch... that hurt. But still funny.
And P.S.?? It's a comic strip... Get over yourselves. Life is too short to argue over the silly things. Live your life and follow your path. If you can't laugh at yourself, you shouldn't laugh at anyone. ;]
**There was much to hate in this world, and too much to love.**
P.S.
I know it's just a comic strip, but really there's that part of me that 1) wonders why the Wiccan slams (considering that my Wiccan friends are Gardnerian, Central Valley, and Alexandrian, not Black Forest), and 2) does want people to remember that not all Pagan paths are equivalent religions with different gods.

My two cents
Just to add my two cents I consider myself Wiccan and I still find these strips (espicailly the "pretending to be..." one) hillairious. They're only done in good fun, like telling blond jokes (no offence to anybody but I'm sure most of us have told at least one). I could be wrong but to me strips like this come accross as Shivan making his own determination between the two terms, while keeping the humour of the strip.
Blessed be,
Willow
And two more makes four....
I agree. We all need to lighten up and have a good laugh. I'm a blonde who loves to tell blonde jokes and a pagan that thinks there's humor in every religion...whether they mean for there to be or not!
=]
I also agree. I'm a girl who likes sexist jokes. the point of comedy, in any form, is to pretty much make light of problems and arguments and generally take the piss out of society. If you dont like that sort of thing, then what are you doing reading a comic strip? Not to say that i think the information about the true definition of paganism isn't interesting or relevant. It's all good.
Solaris Homily
Well
I just love how Shivian himself hasn't spoken a word of comment on this one
hmm
Didn't know there's only bitter humor in paganism nowadays... come on! It's not that I (or others) are offended - most of this shit is true, anyway :P but it's not that funny anymore, not when you repeat it over and over. To me, anyway.
Shivian, comments :) ?
