down side
The obvious down side would be if it gets turned into one of those really annoying chain texts that we all get. Wonder what the charge would be for mass cursing?

Well, why *WOULDN'T* it work? Put the intent into the spell, text it out, and cast it as you're hitting send.
The only possible foul-up I can see in this is thatmagick likes to screw with electronics.
It may, but then....
My teacher put it this way: "The best spells are those you don't tell anyone about." So yeah, it'd work... but it may leave you open to whatever s/he sends in response.

Text curses already work
Spells have been cast through handwritten letters for centuries. Writing is a simple and powerful way to organize and store energy, and having your message read is an easy way to release that energy toward its target. I see no reason why it wouldn't work on a phone screen too... That's for the hypothesis part; next step is to test it !

Texted spells and curses...?
Though I am a pagan and don't think DnD spells actually work, I do play dnd and enjoy it. Now, for you other dnd geeks out there, explosive rune sent as a text :P

Theoretically...
It COULD work, but the more accurate and effective the spell could be, the more characters you need...and I think some text message systems have limits on the number of characters in the message.
